Affordable Ways to Update your Home

I recently got asked this question - and I love it! There are so many ways to affordably transform your space.

  1. A fresh coat of paint. Not only does this potentially modernize some colours in your home, but it will make it fresh, bright and feel clean! This goes for more than just the walls - there are so many amazing products that paint cabinets, tile and more!

  2. Swap out old lighting for new fixtures. I like going to The Lighting Shoppe in Cambridge - but with sites like Amazon and Wayfair, there are millions of affordable options to update those boob lights. This also goes for plumbing fixtures and cabinet hardware - easy, affordable updates that are a huge WOW factor.

  3. Clean, declutter, store. It is amazing how much these three things can restore a space. To me, my floors may not look dirty, but after a vacuum and mop somehow they look sparkly clean…hard to explain haha! Clutter weighs down a home. Get a bin, take it into one room at a time and make some sort of promise to yourself that you will find x amount of items per room or have a full the bin per floor, for example. Next is store. If there are items you are not using weekly, but can’t get rid of yet, store them in a labelled bin and tuck it away for now.

  4. Accessorize and romanticize. Life is made up of little moments, and you want to make them as intentional as possible. If you like reading, create a cozy nook somewhere. If you like coffee, set up a mini café station. Bring life and luxury into spaces like your bathroom or laundry room with plants, matching soap dispensers and quality linens. Tiny updates like that can make you feel like you are at a spa in your own home.

  5. Do those small repairs. If a wall got gauged during a move or a light bulb is burnt out - create a punch list, head to the hardware store and tackle them one at a time.
